Laptop won't turn on using ac adapter

Hi,

I have 3-year-old dell 5520 with a dead battery. I use it with the ac adapter. Recently it doesn't turn on when i press the power button...the power button lights up and the power led is on, but the laptop doesn't boot at all.

A week or so ago, i had the same problem a couple of times, but after persistent pressing and removing and reinserting the ac adapter cable, it turned on. But now nothing happens.

Any idea?

Please help.
